RATA - Rogate Appeal for Traffic Action The lead topic has been the “20sPlenty where people live” campaign. Wheelie bin stickers have publicised the topic and is the start of changing the mind-set of drivers. The Petersfield Post has reported on the subject. The RPC Traffic Sub-Committee has petitioned the centre of Rogate village for a 20mph default speed limit, taking in West Street (including the Parsonage), East Street, North Street and Haben Hill. An overwhelming “yes” vote of 96%…. To read more click/follow this LINK |

Will’s “Camping Adventure” Part 3-Autumn It’s now autumn and I have reached 210 nights and raised over £2,000 so far. Thanks to everyone who is supporting me to complete this challenge. I have been given a warmer sleeping bag by my scout group. I don’t know how I would survive without their support and kind gift. Last night it went down below freezing and I didn’t feel cold at all. When I woke up there was frost on my tent! It’s now getting darker in the mornings and also at night. I hope I get up in time for school. So far I have been lucky because there hasn’t been much rain. But I’ve heard at school that it’s meant to snow soon. I do hope not! I’m so enjoying waking up every morning outside in the fresh air. Over half term I’m going to move my tent up onto our farm and spend a few nights up there. It’ll be cold but it won’t stop me having fun! The other week the Petersfield Post put in a little article about my camping out, it was only small but a lot of people saw it and donating to my scout hut charity. The customers at our farm shop have been so generous with their donations of money, so have parents of scouts, my friends, my relatives and lots of very kind well-wishers. My next write up will be in winter, bbbbrrrrrrr so cross your fingers for me! Will Grange.(1st Sheet Scouts) Durleighmarsh Farm. |

Using food in a sustainable way to create electricity! What will they think of next? The amount of food we waste each year currently sits at a global figure of 1.3bln tons. An unconceivable sum when we consider the amount of people who are starving in the world. But what can be done to put all this waste to better use? Three councils in North Wales are looking at innovative ways of using food waste in a sustainable way; by turning 20,000 tons of it into electricity each year. The £7.5m project ……………………… TO READ THE FULL STORY CLICK THIS LINK |

A Beautiful Story, makes you wonder if things really do happen for a reason well sometimes anyway!
The brand new pastor and his young wife, newly assigned to their first ministry, to reopen a church in suburban Brooklyn. Arriving in early October excited about their opportunities but when they saw their church, it was very run down and needed much work. They set a goal to have everything done in time to have their first service on Christmas Eve. They worked hard, repairing pews, re-plastering walls, painting, etc. and ……………. The “Banking Crises” simply explained… A “Young Apprentice” type bought a donkey from a farmer for £100 and the farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day… The next day he drove up and said, 'Sorry son, but I have some bad news. The donkey's died.' The “Young Apprentice” replied, 'Well then just give me my money back.' The farmer said, 'Can't do that, I've already spent it.' The “Young Apprentice” said, 'OK, then, just bring me the dead donkey.' The farmer asked, 'What are you going to do with him?' The “Young Apprentice” said, 'I'm going to raffle him off.' The farmer said, 'You can't raffle a dead donkey!' The “Young Apprentice” said, 'Sure I can, watch me, I just won't tell anybody he's dead.' A month or so later, the farmer met up with the “Young Apprentice” and asked, 'What happened with that dead donkey?' The “Young Apprentice” said, 'I raffled him off, I sold 500 tickets at two pounds a piece and made a profit of £898' The farmer said, 'Didn't anyone complain?' (now hears the clever bit!) The “Young Apprentice” said, 'Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two pounds back.' The “Young Apprentice” is rumoured to now work for the Royal Bank of Scotland! |

FROM THE VILLAGE SHOP……. It has been nearly nine months since we took over at the Village Shop and in that time a number of changes have been made. We have freshened up the whole place and given the shop a new lick of paint inside and out. We have also generally re-organised the inside to maximise the available sales space. We have installed a deli counter and provided a range of cheeses and ham etc. We have introduced a whole host of new products, namely, fresh local meat from Adsdean Farm at Funtington, Local Meadow Cottage ice cream from Bordon, Milk from the Meon Valley in Hampshire, Eggs from Chithurst, Cakes from Country Cakes at Liphook, Daily bread deliveries from The Granary at Haslemere and more recently COOK frozen ready meals. We have supported the community in many ways. We served Cream teas at the flower show, we sold tickets for the Christmas pantomime, collected bottles and sold raffle tickets for the Christmas fair, provided a collection point for the British Legion poppy appeal, as well as many other activities that a good community focused village shop should provide. However, sadly, the shop is still not well supported and is far from being a viable business concern. It seems that the despite our best efforts the vast majority of people are only interested in buying newspapers, tobacco, or lottery tickets, none of which are particularly profitable nor are they what we set up in business to do! It is fully understood that people will use the supermarkets for their main weekly shopping, however I would strongly urge you to visit the village shop when you need just a few bits as opposed to driving to Petersfield or Midhurst. It is also much more environmentally friendly and possibly cheaper when taking into account the cost of the fuel and parking. We will be opening the tea room shortly so pop in for a cup of tea or coffee and have a look around at the same time, you may just be surprised! The Shop, like any other business, needs to be profitable to be sustainable. While profits are never likely to be excessive, no business can continue to operate at a loss! So, residents of Rogate, it is over to you. Support us and we survive or continue as you are and we will disappear like many others! Peter Cragg |
