Local Clubs & Societies

There has never been a better time to get out and make new friends.

Looking for someone to give you a hand with the shopping, or doing a bit of housework, or even taking the cat to the vet? All these, and more, are jobs that care organisations in your area may be able to help with if you give them a call.
Home Help is one of these, based in Midhurst but covering the area south to Chichester and east to Petworth. We can provide as much help (or as little) as you need, from a range of housework tasks, to helping you to cope with getting up, and going to bed in the evening, and even provide someone to live-in with you, to be a companion and do all the jobs that need doing, if that is what you’d like.
Another time when help may be needed is coming out of hospital. If you know of someone who needs a bit of help to settle back into the routines at home, just until everything is back to normal, we can help with that too. Care organisations know that this is a stressful time, and a long period in hospital means that getting back home again is difficult to adjust to. We can come and help, even before you get home, to get the house ready, and then support you when you are home, until you feel yourself again.
We employ trained and professional staff who you can trust to have in your home, and who will be polite and respectful to you and all your family and friends. We hope that you will find you can rely on them and that their help and support will make a difference, for as long as you need them.
If you would like to know how we can help, or you know someone who might need us, please contact Home Help on 01730 817222 or visit or

ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCE is administered by the Disability and Carers Service and is a payment for a person aged 65 years or over with a physical or mental illness or disability, which is severe enough for them to need help with personal care and/or keeping safe.  If assistance is needed in the day or night then the lower rate of £43.15 may be claimed, and the higher rate of £64.50 where both day and night time assistance is required. homeshare scheme operating in west Sussex

West Sussex is pioneering a scheme in which older people provide a much-needed home to people who give them help and support in return.

There are many older people living alone in the County whose family and friends are too far away to give them the help, companionship

and security they need.

At the same time the high cost of housing has made it difficult for people such as care workers, teachers or students to find suitable accommodation.

Called Homeshare, this is a scheme where a householder offers a homesharer free accommodation in exchange for an agreed level of help with daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning or gardening as well as companionship. It allows the homesharer to save money by not paying rent and allows them to live in an area they might not otherwise have been able to afford.

Homeshare puts the householder and the worker in touch with each other.

Before a match is made and homesharing takes place the Homeshare Co-ordinator interviews and checks both parties. It’s only when they are sure that both parties will be suitable for the arrangement that they are introduced to each other.

The co-ordinator also provides ongoing help, support and advice to both parties.

West Sussex is one of only two areas in the country which have been selected for this pilot scheme. The scheme is funded and run by National Association of Adult Placement Services (NAAPS) in partnership with Adults’ Services. It will be evaluated by Oxford Brookes University.

Anyone interested in homesharing or who wishes to gain further information should contact

Dawn Blake, the Homeshare Co-ordinator. Telephone 07738 641897 or E-Mail: dawn.blake@westsussex.gov.uk
