Double Milestone for Rogate Vicar As The Sun Shine's Down on his congregation The Reverend Edward Doyle celebrated not only his 10 years anniversary as Rogate’s Parish Priest but also a landmark age (the big 40) amongst his many friends and family in Rogate on Sunday. In a moving end to the special United Benefice Service held to celebrate Pentecost being held in a marquee kindly loaned by village newlyweds Stephen & Mary-Anne Berendt. (Edward presided over their lovely marriage service in St Bartholemews just the day before) and just as Edward thought he was drawing the magnificent service to a close, John Field stepped up to the microphone and turned the tables on the fast talking bubbly Welshman. Edward who is not known for being a quiet, some may even say even somewhat shy wallflower, was visible overcome with joy as he was presented with 40 candles by Anne Arnold Churchwarden for Terwick Church along with Hilly Buell who presented a truly beautiful birthday cake made by local award wining cake designer Debbie Harwood The marquee was pack to overflowing with the churchwardens struggling to find enough seating for the warm hearted crowd drawn to this very special Pentecost Church Service. With the renowned singer-songwriter and teller of tales Ish Smale, giving a delightful portrayal of Jesus' Peter along with a special song called Count Your Blessings sung by the Rogate School Children & Staff all coming together on a fabulous sunny day, Rogate was THE place to be last Sunday morning. After the service and presentations including special flowers & gifts to Edward Doyle’s family along with heartfelt thanks for their input into the community. The congregation was invited to join in with a lovely buffet luncheon, which had been put together by the combined efforts of the Churchwardens of Rogate Church St Bartholomew, Penny Croucher & Tim Salter along with Ann Arnold with Lady Nixon from Terwick Church St Georges and Elizabeth Brown & Charles Homan, churchwardens of Trotton Church St Peters along with Hilly Buell and John Field. A lovely family event, in a lovely rural community, on a truly lovely summers day in England, marvellous simply gwych ! Click this Link to more picks |

This will be available to view on the WSCC planning portal – Midhurst Rother College became the first Academy in West Sussex when it opening in January 2009 under the sponsorship of the United Learning Trust. The main construction work is due to start in January 2011. The scheme also includes an interchange for school buses and an all weather sports pitch. The outline business case for the scheme and the funding has been approved by the Department for Education’s Partnerships for Schools board, and the final details are due to be completed in November 2010. Balfour Beatty Construction Ltd has been appointed as the preferred contractor for the four West Sussex Academies. Peter Griffiths, West Sussex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Schools, said: “Everyone connected with the project has been very anxious to involve the community as the proposals are developed, and I hope people will take advantage of this latest chance to comment and meet members of the team. "I am confident the end result will be a superb new learning environment that will benefit students for generations to come.” College Principal Dr Joe Vitagliano said: “Midhurst Rother College’s new building will be at the heart of the local community. We have already received many valuable suggestions for its design. We now look forward to the next step in securing a building that will not only inspire us all but serve the many demands that will be made of it.” |

Midhurst Community and leisure centre progresses to next stage Leading councillors at Chichester District Council have given authority for the new community and leisure centre project in Midhurst to move to the next stage. They have also asked officers to continue to seek external funding to support the provision of community space in the building. There will soon be a public consultation on the proposals and this will be followed by a planning application. The Council has been working in partnership with West Sussex County Council, the Grange Centre Trustees and Midhurst Town Council to develop a new community and leisure centre that will meet the community’s needs. Residents and visitors will be able to access a number of services in one location, which will offer extended opening hours. The Council has been planning for this centre for a number of years. This is to replace the current centre, which needs major repair work and is not fully accessible to people with disabilities. Currently the scheme is being designed to include: · Chichester District Council’s Customer Service team and West Sussex County Council’s help point · Our staff, currently based in the Area Office in North Street, will move to the new centre. This will allow us to offer extended times and services. · A multi-purpose four-court sports hall this will meet Sport England standards. · Male and female changing facilities these will be located in two areas of the centre. · Fitness room the room will include the very latest fitness equipment, similar to Westgate Leisure Chichester and Bourne. · Two squash courts and a squash viewing area · Dance studio with mirrors the room will be used for fitness, dance or community activities. · A library this will include a children’s area, a computer area and an enquiry point. · A multi purpose hall · Community rooms the rooms will be used as community meeting areas or for other activities during the day, in the evenings and at weekends. · Health suite this may include a sauna, steam room, and relaxation area. There may also be rooms for physiotherapy and beauty therapy services. · A bar and café with internet access · The facility will overlook South Pond, with seating in and outside of the centre. This will offer food and both non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. · Offices to accommodate leisure and building control staff. Building control staff, currently located in North Street, will be moved into the centre. · A registrar office, where you can register births and deaths. The building has been designed to be flexible, offering a range of different activity areas. Many rooms have moveable walls, allowing the centre to expand areas, or reduce them, depending on the activity. The main community area can extend up to 200 square metres. The library will also have moveable shelving, allowing the team to rearrange the layout to suit their customers’ needs. The new bar and café will overlook South Pond, and will be able to cater for any functions held at the centre. This is also located next to the community space, making it easy to cater for community events and activities. “We are delighted with the plans, which move the project forward to the next stage,” says Cllr Nick Thomas, Portfolio Holder for Sport and Culture at Chichester District Council. “We have taken account of the views of local community groups, which were keen for additional community space to be provided. As part of the continuing work of the project, we are also still exploring external funding opportunities. “We will now develop the plans and put these on display for residents to comment upon, before applying for planning permission. “These are really exciting times for Midhurst. This will be a first class facility, for everyone to enjoy. The project is a great example of different organisations and groups working together to deliver the same goal.” It is hoped that the new centre will opened in Autumn 2012.
