Rogate Bowling Club is a well established Club founded in 1930. We are affiliated to Bowls England and to the Sussex County Bowling Association. We have four rinks and a new Clubhouse providing changing rooms, toilets and an area for refreshment. The club has around 50 playing members and several social members and is self financing. Membership is open to men and women by annual subscription of £35 with a joining fee of £5 for new members. Junior Members (i.e. those in full time education) may join for a reduced annual subscription. We cater for beginners and serious players, with plenty of competitive matches and club competitions. The final outdoor bowling event for the season was a “FUN” day & BBQ. This was a mix of target bowls, bowling into squares marked out on the green, eight ends of normal bowls and finishing the day with a “Killer” - where each player has three “lives”. Players had to bowl between three bowls set out two thirds of the way up the green. If a bowl was hit a “Life” was lost. Good Fun! The winner was Dorothy Bostwick with Ken Mullard runner-up. Many thanks to Bob Turner who manned the BBQ. Saturday October the 8th saw the start of our winter activities which are held at the Henry Warren Hall, Nyewood. This was a Beetle Drive attended by 26 people. Next month on Saturday the 12th will be a Games Night where everyone will be encouraged to take part in any number of activities (target bowls, snooker, darts, quizzes, cards, board games etc.) This is a social evening when some people might just like to sit and chat over a cup of tea or a drink from the bar. Everyone is welcome — 7.30pm start. Entrance £2.00. The Annual Dinner & Presentation Evening was held at The Half Moon, Sheet on Friday October the 14th. Sixty people enjoyed a very pleasant evening with excellent food and good company. Our AGM will be held at the Henry Warren Hall, Nyewood on Monday, November the 28th at 7.30pm.

ROGATE BOWLING CLUB News September 2011. It is with great sadness that I have to report the death of Roger Goodies after a long illness. Roger was our Chairman from 2004—2010. He worked tirelessly to obtain planning permission and grants. Without his expertise and administration skill we would have struggled to get the lovely clubhouse we have today. For that we will always be grateful.
The Three Counties League has now finished:- The “A” Team have retained the position on Division 1 after beating Petersfield and Headley, gaining five points from each game. The “B” Team have finished midway in Division 4.
Several players are still competing in the Three Counties Singles, Pairs, and Triples (1/4 Finals)
In the Friendly matches things have been looking up, with wins against Stedham, Graffham, Alresford and Petersfield.
Forthcoming Fixtures:- September 3rd and 4th, Club Final Weekend. Friday 9th September is “Candlelight Bowls Night” Good Fun! Gill and Leon would like to thank Carol & Mike Lifton, Fiona Lynch and Dot Bostwick for their help with the Target Bowls at Rogate Fete. It was a successful afternoon making £71 for Rogate Village Hall & Recreation Ground Funds. Winners were - Adult, Duggie Mann with 23 shoots & Junior - Bethany with 17 shoots.
Don’t forget anyone wishing to try their hand at bowls is always welcome. Come over to the Bowls Club and see what it is all about. Roll-ups are Mondays at 2.00pm and Thursdays at 10.00am. Gill Burgess. 01730 893972. |
