THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH

Life is a book of volumes three,

the past, the present and the yet to be.

The past is gone and put away,

The present we’re living in day by day;

The last, and best of these volumes three

Is kept out of sight,

And God keeps the key!

(Anon)

Rogation Days!

 The name Rogation comes from the Latin word Rogare, to intercede, ask or beseech.  It's traditionally a time when prayers are made for God's blessing on the land, livestock and crops in the hope of a good harvest.  Join us this year for our Rogation Walk, Tea and Service.

What is Ascension Day?

Ascension Day marks the last appearance of Jesus to the disciples after his resurrection at Easter.
The name 'Ascension' comes from the accounts in the Bible in Mark's Gospel and Luke's Gospel that tell of Jesus being taken up into heaven - he Ascended. Ten days after Ascension Day is Pentecost (Whitsuntide) which marks the coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples.

Pentecost (Whitsunday)

It is celebrated on the Sunday which falls on the 50th day after the Easter festival. Pentecost ( the name Pentecost is also a Jewish festival)  which celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit in the form of flames to the followers of Jesus, as recorded in the New Testament. Jesus had told them to wait in Jerusalem until the Spirit came to them before going out to proclaim the Good News to the whole world. Pentecost is regarded as the birthday of the Church!

Pentecost Wind Socks! (Craft)

Pentecost is when a rushing wind brought The Holy Spirit! The Holy Spirit is like the wind; we can’t see it, but it’s there.

Cut red, yellow and orange tissue paper into 1-by-12-inch strips. Glue the strips to the long edge of an 8-by-12-inch piece of construction paper. Turn the paper over and decorate the other side with glitter and paper cutouts of doves and flames. Roll the paper into a tube and staple the 8-inch sides together. Punch two holes into the end of the tube without the streamers. Tie strings to each of these holes. Tie the other end of the strings to a pencil or dowel. Place the new wind sock outside and watch the power of the wind.
